Monarch lathe.

This is one brute of a machine. It was made in 1941 and I am sure helped win World War 2 for the US!
It is a remarkable machine even in todays standards as far as hand machines go.
It has a 5 horse power 3 phase 220v AC motor that drives a DC generator. They did some electrical hocus pocus that even if I read up on it it is hard to understand, but bottom line is it has a variable RPM control and at low RPMs it still has a lot of torque! I have a home made rotophase and I generate my own three phase power, that is when the power company is supplying me power!
