Use a template bought from Aircraft Spruce to get centre and screw holes right. I've got a carbon fiber panel, but at 1 mm it is not quite strong enough. Solution is to make a laminate with a 1mm layer of aluminium. Avionics panel filled up. Realise too late that the interior space does not extend straight back from the front, so transponder is a very tight fit. Beautifully splatter painted a dark grey, it should combine nicely with the final carbon inserts.
