Loaner crimps are straight and Steinair has 2 holes that crimp on each insert.
Ends up that someone ground off 2 of the 5 ratchet notches so tool dosen't overcrimp on the loaner tool. You need to be very careful to only squeeze until third click and release or you will overcrimp.
Steinair tool is perfect for D-sub as far as being able to ratchet the full 5 clicks and not overcrimp.
With the newly fabricated pin holder Steinair supplied is now my tool of choice.
Works great now and yields adjustable stop.
One on left has spring going in first and pin holder second that yields an adjustable stop. Works well.
Steinair tool on right has pin holder going in first and spring second. This yields no adjustment for stop depth and it is set too deep for D-sub machined pins as sold by Steinair.
left is one a friend lent me, and one on right is one supplied by Steinair that dosen't hold the pin at the proper depth.
3 generic tools on left OK at some jobs, but pretty useless for Steinair or Terminal town connectors.
5th from left sold by Terminal town is great for their connectors.
6th from left sold by Aircraft Spruce is great for Steinair connectors.
4th from left is a slightly better generic tool that 3 on left from Aircraft Spruce with a number of tips. Again pretty useless for Steinair or Terminal town connectors.
7th from left is an inexpensive tool that works great for Radio Shack connectors.
This AMP 59250 certi-crimp T-head is the hands down winner! We are borrowing a local Flight Instructors tool he purchesed on E-Bay a while back for 30 or 40$. Newark sells them for $1,001.00 as of this date and an Avionics shop was $1,200.00!
