Raimo refueling 1
Hi Luc
I have uship.com proposals to put the Europa monowheel trailer into an enclosed "car trailer", which has an internal dimension of 6'3", to get it from GA to the Canadian border.
Is this high enough ?
1) The highest point is a fintip + a possible strobo. When trailered, the tail wheel bottom distance to the ground is about 300 mm = 12 inches.
That means I think (imho) 6`3" is *just enough* and ok but when you pull Europa trailer into a car trailer you could lower the trailer?s front wheel even more if necessary or even take a front wheel away.
Are there any recommended extra straps to add to the Europa trailer to make sure nothing falls off ?
I would like to support it sideways to prevent all the movings.
What is the weight of the Europa trailer ?
I have a highly modified Europa trailer with double axle and the full floor. I assume it?s weight is around 350 kgs = about 770 lbs.
Original trailer would be about 250 kgs = 550 lbs.
What size trailer hitch ball is supported on the Europa trailer ?
Trailer hitch ball? My cars have an European standardized towing balls and it?s size /diameter is about 50 mm = 2".
I purchased my trailer from Germany - I cannot be sure does it have same female ball in the UK.
Anything else I should be worried about ?
Drive carefully!
Towing the plane is the biggest risk to damage it!
Why not to fly it to Canada?
VERY good idea to use an enclosed trailer and a trailer inside anyway if you really had to tow it!
Check your Europa in every 60 miles or so!
How about you stay inside the trailer (inside the Europa!) a whole trip with continous radio or phone contact to the professional car driver?
Support your Europa well (sideways) to the trailer (otherwise your main gear leg is stressed more or less)!
Notice extra side supports (a pic)!
Notice to use wing safety film (a pic)!
Remember to lock the tailwheel to the trailer!
Remember to strap the Europa trailer well to the car trailer to prevent all the movings!
Do not ever never put your tailplanes to the Europa trailer - please pack them well separately (I have made a softened aluminium box like a huge suitcase for them)!
Notice the ball weight! You have to pull your trailer inside so that your prop is towards a towing car and tailwheel is behind to get a positive trailer hitch ball load - otherwise it is VERY dangerous!
When I am trailering, I use always an another car behind the trailer. So it is a two cars + a trailer formation. That is to prevent any other moving hostile object to come near or behind my trailer and to prevent possible following accidents. I know - I am almost a hysteric person - but I hate an idea to have a traffic accident with my Europa!
Attached a couple of my trailer pics (a floor was not installed during those days).
I hope this helps - good luck (drive carefully, again and keep the distance to the car you follow!

P.S.: I decided it was better not to use the Europa trailer directly to ferry the airplane, as it is in an unknown state, and that I do not have proper registrations for it yet. Also I am trying to avoid having road contaminants damaging the airplane.
