I had some 8 watt LEDs hanging around and quickly hobbled together two portable lights. At first I had these lights on a 50 foot line cord, but they begin to get hot and are hard to aim. I taped one lead to the battery, then taped the LED by the ceramic base socket to the battery with electrical tape and have an allegator clip to act as a switch.
These LEDs draw ~.6 amps according to a cheap Harbor Freight VOM set on amps.
Thus this 9aH battery taken down to 50% (discharging to less than 50% decreases life of battery) should give me ~ 7.5 hours of light.
